Learn & create music by engaging your mind, instinct, and body

In the Intergalactic Music Academy, we guide students through a unique educational and creative music approach

  • We encourage students to explore and/or create common grounds among classical, jazz improvisation, and folk music.

  • We utilize modes and music theory from ancient modal systems and create new, fresh, and unique harmonic and melodic colors.

  • We practice rhythm by engaging the body (kinesthetics and dance). We work on repertoire and exercises from African, Indian, and Mediterranean rhythmic traditions.

  • We work through a diverse repertoire that celebrates all music cultures, including microtonal modal systems from Asia, and East European traditions.

  • We incorporate Interdisciplinary Arts by utilizing colors, geometry, poetry, cinema, paintings, astronomy, dance, Tai-Chi/ Qigong, games, and imagery.

  • We provide holistic and effective tools that engage the Intellect (Aristotelian), Intuition (Zen), and the Physical Body (Body Energy) in every aspect of learning and creation.

Students arrive at the desired level through a project-based education that includes film-scoring projects, reharmonization of existing melodies, improvisation, and composition.

We teach fun and highly effective tools that are customized to each individual’s needs and guide them as they evolve in their unique creative path.

Every subject is approached from the “Universal Oneness” standpoint.

We encourage students to embrace dissonant sonorities, dissonant chords, and "avoid notes"

and create music projects through a diverse and infinite spectrum of

bright, dark, cool, and warm colors

A multi-colored musical universe in which our students create music as painters

A kind and altruistic person [...] articulate, extremely well organized, very clever on technology. He can grasp the soul of a piece with a wonderful appreciation for stylistic originality.
— Ran Blake
Lefteris has been an incredible teacher for the past six months, and I can say for certain I have learnt more than in the past five years before. He offers a personalized teaching approach with a focus on allowing the student to find their own solutions - and he is never short for suggestions. The skills I have gained will serve me well in any kind of musical situation I happen to find myself in, and I count myself very lucky to be able to be a student of his (hopefully for a long time to come!).
— Peter Kossen, professional musician, Australia
A remarkable hardworking teacher and creative jazz pianist and composer. I am most impressed with the detailed and patient way he can break down and clearly explain the mechanics of what and why we are working this way.
— Bert Seager, jazz pianist-composer, professor at New England Conservatory of Music
Lefteris offers students a vast pool of experience and knowledge that one can dip into - it’s actually more like you want to jump in and splash around when you realize what he has to offer! His enthusiasm and love for music creates an atmosphere of positive vibes and a safe space for learning. With patience, encouragement and true commitment, he will leave no stone unturned in helping a student understand a topic.
— Barbara Banacos, professional musician, educator
My experience with Lefteris has been superb. Not only is he a very knowledgeable and established musician, he’s also a very kind human being. Apart from our excellent educational relationship, I always felt respected as a person and we’ve had great conversations. Our curriculum was personal and was specifically designed to fit my needs with respect to my wants. It has been great learning difficult concepts in such a fun and interesting way. Lefteris’ holistic approach and unique vision, his way of combining ideas of music, science, astronomy, poetry etc. definitely make his academy a worthwhile experience for anyone interested in exploring their full potential.
— Stefanos Athinaios Frilingos, percussionist
An encouraging and open minded teacher, which is rare. I would like to work with him forever and ever.
— Ceyhan Pestimacioglu, jazz guitarist/mathematician, Istanbul, Turkey
Like many other musicians, I always had trouble identifying the fine details of exactly what was happening in the music I played. I could feel dense harmonies and chord progressions, but for the most part I couldn’t readily identify them. Within just a few months of studying theory and ear training with Lefteris, this has begun to change radically. It’s as if a dense fog had always been obscuring the connection between my inner ear and my conscious mind, and with Lefteris’ guidance I’m finding my way out of the fog into a bright clearing, full of birds and fragrant blossoms. What impresses me the most about Lefteris is not his impeccable musicianship or his firm command of an unusually wide range of musics, though these are apparent to anyone who spends any time at all around him. What makes him such an extraordinary teacher is his very obvious commitment to bringing out the absolute best in his students by patiently, compassionately, and methodically training us to let our intuition take the lead in what we do as musicians. In the short time that I’ve been studying with him, I’ve experienced a dramatic improvement in my comprehension of harmonic progressions and an explosion of compositional creativity. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
— Paddy League, performer, ethnomusicologist, and Ph.D. Harvard University
I feel extremely fortunate to have found Lefteris as my teacher. Being a teacher of classical piano myself, I know what it takes to teach- -and am happy to say that he is everything you would want to find in your dream teacher- - brilliant, organized, inspiring, and deeply tuned to the needs of the student. Every lesson is custom tailored to each student, and he was able to assess exactly what I needed to begin my journey as a beginning jazz student.
I am so happy with the progress that I have made, and can’t wait for my next lesson!!
— Sarah Takagi, Piano faculty, New England Conservatory of Music Prep Division
Under the guidance of Professor Lefteris Kordis, a highly skilled musician, Ear Training 4 presented unprecedented challenges, transforming the focus from mere ear training to an exploration of becoming a drummer. In the initial weeks, he led us in wielding drumsticks, coordinating rhythmic patterns with vocalizations and foot movements, creating intricate ear training exercises. Additionally, he shared a website he developed for diverse ear training exercises, enhancing our skills. Proficient in practicing complex tension chords, he guided us to identify tension notes within chords, significantly contributing to ear training improvement. Beyond skill enhancement, his class seamlessly integrated abilities into projects. Film scoring projects allowed us to apply our understanding of chord properties to compose music for short videos. Towards the semester end, we honed our dictation skills by transcribing musical pieces. In Lefteris’s class, I not only learned effective ear training methods but also witnessed the practical application of these skills in projects. The value of this course extends beyond the sixteen weeks, and I believe it will profoundly impact my future musical endeavors. Reflecting an ancient Chinese proverb, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime,” encapsulates Lefteris’s teaching philosophy adeptly.
